Staff Photography Competition
Dates: Annual
Location: Global
Overview
Each year HSBC organises a staff photography competition to find a set of images for the HSBC Group calendar.
The theme of the 2009 competition ‘celebrating our culture today' has certainly caught the imagination of HSBC staff worldwide. Entries were received from 47 countries and territories and in total 1,328 images were submitted. The photographs will appear in the 2009 HSBC Group calendar, which will be sent to customers around the world.
Over the years, the quality of the work submitted has continued to impress the judges and this year was no exception. Local judging took place in the UK, Hong Kong SAR, the US and Mexico, with Group Chairman Stephen Green participating as chief judge. The judging criteria included the quality of the images, adherence to the theme and its interpretation.
It takes a very special picture to be chosen for the calendar cover. This year's winning entry was submitted by Winty Liu, Process Consultant, HSBC Software Development (Guangdong) Limited, Guangzhou, China. This atmospheric shot shows a procession of Yao, one of China's minority groups. They are wearing striking costumes and playing traditional musical instruments during an ancient festival.
