Youth Excellence Initiative

The Youth Excellence Initiative (YEI) was launched to support outstanding young Singaporeans to develop and realise their potential to the fullest and achieve international recognition for themselves and for Singapore. The initiative is also designed to enable young talents to contribute to the Singapore and international community through their involvement in youth outreach programmes at home and abroad. In time their achievements will hopefully serve as a catalyst to promote the pursuit of excellence, especially among young Singaporeans.

To formally recognise such talents, the HSBC Youth Excellence Award was launched in 2001. Recipients are provided with both opportunities as well as funding support to further develop their potential. To date, HSBC Youth Excellence Award recipients include prodigies such as 13 year old violinist Gabriel Ng, 15 year old pianist Clare Yeo and 14 year old opera singer Janani Sridhar, who have collectively helped to raise almost $900,000 for charities as part of their community outreach efforts.

Former winners include:
2008- Sarah Pineda Sharfudin, Teo Ngee Yong
2007- Janell Marianne Yeo
2006- Gabriel Ng
2005- Janani Sridhar
2004- Clare Yeo
2003- Abigail Sin
