Winner of 2011 RIBA Manser Medal is announced
The winner of the 2011 RIBA Manser Medal in association with HSBC Private Bank was announced last night at a prestigious prize ceremony hosted by broadcaster Kirsty Wark.
Duggan Morris Architects was awarded the 10,000 prize fund and specially commissioned trophy for House in North London - the re-design and renovation of a 1960s Brutalist house in Highgate.
Originally built in 1968 by an architect for himself and his family, the property was facing demolition by the time another architect couple saw it's potential and commissioned Duggan Morris Architects to redesign the interior of the house, the garden and the roof garden and to restore other details of the building.
The house was one of six properties shortlisted for the award, along with a ‘hovering house' near Brecon in Wales and a modern and uncompromising piece of contemporary architecture in Epsom, Surrey.

Judges Tony Chapman, Hon FRIBA, RIBA Head of Awards and Peter Mackie, Managing Director of Property Vision (a subsidiary of HSBC Private Bank) have also been discussing the prize, the shortlist and some of the wider issues around private house building and architecture on the RIBA blog.
