Heritage Malta
Supporting the Heritage Sponsorship Scheme and the National Museum of Fine Arts as a Patron of Heritage Malta.
Project dates: ongoing
HSBC is Patron of Heritage Malta, the national agency of the Government of Malta.
We support both the refurbishment of the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Malta Hotel Heritage Sponsorship Scheme through Heritage Malta.
HSBC assists the National Museum of Fine Arts, one of the heritage sites by donating Lm 10,000 each year towards the refurbishment of the Museum's Library.
The Hotel Heritage Sponsorship Scheme was set up by HSBC and the leading hotels in Malta to raise funds for the restoration and preservation of Malta's heritage sites so that they can be enjoyed by locals and visitors.
The scheme was launched in June 2006 with six hotels participating and has now grown to 17. Hotels adopt a Heritage Malta site and ask guests to contribute 1 Euro per night per room which is deposited into an account for the restoration of the specific site.
HSBC sponsors the scheme and pays for all the promotion and marketing of the scheme.

Metropolitan Cathedral Mdina
In 2007, HBMT contributed to the restoration of one of the most important treasures in the Mdina Cathedral, the fifteen silver statues known as ‘L'Apostolato'
Project dates: ongoing
L'Apostolato represents the figures of the Holy Apostles and the images of the Virgin Mary, St John the Baptist and St Paul. These are realised in thin sheet in silver whipped on a supporting structure in wood. Some decorative elements and engraving are bronze gilded and golden silver.
The fifteen manufactured items, measuring approximately 110cms were originally placed on the main altar of St John's Co-Cathedral, in Valletta. These statues, which are today preserved in the Cathedral in Mdina, were realised in Rome in 1740 by sculptor Antonio Arrighi and are considered to be one of the most interesting examples representing the antique production and craft of the Roman goldsmith.
