Ooi Sew Kim

Narrator, singer and owner of the Beng Geok Hong Hokkien Puppet Troupe, Ooi has performed at numerous temple festivals and religious celebrations. Today her troupe has over 200 puppet characters and more than 150 stories in the repertoire.

Kok Ah Wah

Kok is the last remaining full-time traditional signboard engraver who produces 100% handcrafted wooden signboards in Penang. Framed wooden signboards above the front doors bless the comings and goings of residents and guests and it continues to be a local custom to present signboards to owners of newly-opened businesses to bring luck. The difference between Kok's hand-crafted and machine-crafted signboards lies in the texture and depth of the carving which is painstakingly achieved by using many different chisel heads.
