The Prime Minister's Global Fellowship programme
England, Brazil, China and India
Project dates: ongoing
The Prime Minister's Global Fellowship programme works with 18 and 19 year olds in full-time education, training or apprenticeship or who are active in the youth sector in England. It aims to help develop an understanding of the opportunities and challenges that young people face in the new global economy and give them a voice in the debate about Britain's future.
Every year in July and August, 100 promising young people embark on a six week journey to Brazil, China or India to investigate issues of culture, language, education, enterprise and the environmental effects of globalisation and to learn what a positive role they can play in the world.
The trip includes spending two weeks as the guest of a global company, including HSBC, which is a major corporate partner of the programme. We run corporate social responsibility projects around the world, including São Paulo in Brazil, which visiting Fellows have been actively involved in during their stay with us.
For more information on HSBC's involvement in the programme visit the Prime Minister's Global Fellowship programme website.
On their return to England, all Fellows automatically become part of a network of active globally-minded young people in England that share their experiences and learning on local and national platforms to raise awareness of global issues.
Kala Ghoda Festival of India
The Kala Ghoda is an area of historical importance in the Fort area of Mumbai (where the HSBC India HQ is located).
Project date: Ongoing, January and October each year
A key part of the financial district, Kala Ghoda is home to several architecturally significant buildings, including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Museum.
To help fund the upkeep of these buildings and to promote the heritage of the area, the Kala Ghoda Association hosts two events each year, one in January and the other in October. HSBC is a founder member of the association, which was formed in 1999.
In 2008, the October event was held in collaboration with the Surabhi Foundation, an organisation that is working to preserve the cultural heritage of the country as a whole.
Alongside the musical and theatrical performances, there was also a market where craftsmen from around the country could display and sell their products. This also helps to build links between modern urban India and the traditions of its rural population.

Celebrate Bandra festival
Bandra is one of the oldest suburbs of Mumbai, and one of the seven islands that made up the original city.
Project date: Ongoing, November - December each year
The area has a rich cultural heritage; its architecture in particular is an important part of Mumbai's history.
To promote the cultural significance of the suburb, the local people organise the Celebrate Bandra Festival. Held over a period of two weeks, the festival includes several music programmes, art exhibitions and drama workshops. The venues for performances are some of Bandra's historic sites, including the fort and the promenade. Many of the streets also play host to the festivities which helps to create a carnival atmosphere.
