Prix HSBC pour la Photographie
Project dates: Ongoing since 1995
Prix HSBC pour la Photographie has run an international competition for talented contemporary photographers since 1995.
Photography has been a part of HSBC France's cultural policy for many years. We are committed to providing ongoing support to today's generation of artists and each year the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie, created in 1995 with the Fondation de France, sponsors two young contemporary photographers and promotes them and their work to a wide audience.
We do this by organising joint exhibitions, publishing their monographs in the Collection du Prix HSBC pour la Photographie with Actes Sud and purchasing at least six pieces of their work.
Candidates are selected through an annual contest held by the Prix HSBC from October to December, with the dozen finalists being chosen by the Artistic Consultant and the two winning candidates selected by the Executive Committee by secret ballot.
The Prix HSBC pour la Photographie is chaired by Peter Boyles, CEO of HSBC France, with executive director Chantal Nedjib, Head of Corporate Communications of HSBC France.
Olivier Saillard, Director of fashion exhibitions at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris, was this year's Artistic Consultant while historian, art critic and curator Bernard Marcelis takes over the role in 2010.
Please note that entry to the 2010 competition is now closed.

European Musical Academy of Aix en Provence
Project dates: ongoing since 2006
HSBC France has sponsored the European Musical Academy of Aix-en-Provence since 2006, supporting talented young people through music and education and helping them to fulfil their potential.
The Academy selects young performers to work alongside well-known musicians to prepare concert and recital programmes and gives them the opportunity to perform in the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
Every year, we support a special class of eight young HSBC prize winners, both vocalists and instrumentalists, by organising several concerts in France and abroad. The events introduce the young musicians to the general public and also help them take their first steps in their chosen career.
The following students were announced as the new HSBC prize winners at the Aix-en-Provence Festival on 25 July 2009:
Mari Eriksmoen, soprano
Rosanne van Sandwijk, mezzo-soprano
Pavel Kolgatin, tenor
Waltteri Torikka, baritone
Navarra String Quartet (Xander van Vliet and Marije Ploemacher on violins, Simone van der Giessen on violla and Nathaniel Boys on cello)

The Fondation HSBC pour l'Education
Project dates: on going since 2005
The Fondation HSBC pour l'Education was set up at the end of 2005, to coordinate educational initiatives supported by the bank. HSBC sees education as one of the main springboards to success for young people.
Every year, HSBC undertakes initiatives that give young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access to education through culturally based projects. The Foundation's Executive Committee stresses the importance of culture as a way of discovering the world, developing your own personality and developing a taste for learning.
HSBC France employees are also invited to make a personal contribution to the programme by assisting project leaders in a range of tasks, such as seeking funds, accompanying young people to cultural events or participating in competition panels themselves.
