HSBC Private Bank's integrated approach to design incorporates a commitment to encouraging the ideas and talents of emerging designers across the world.
In 2007, HSBC Private Bank initiated the project with Miami's Design and Architecture Senior High, (DASH) a successful magnet school which ranks among the top eight high schools in the U.S. according to U.S. News and World Report. The school attracts talented students from throughout the Miami-Dade County.
HSBC Private Bank's continuing collaboration with DASH is also part of its long-term commitment to investing in education and the environment, particularly to enhance the vibrancy of the local communities that it serves.
In 2008 HSBC Private Bank supported an environmental fashion design project to encourage and showcase the talents of emerging student designers at DASH for a second year. This contribution helped 23 students to design and produce fashion garments that are friendly to the environment. Their work is called "Project Green" and the young designers used only materials and processes that are environmentally sustainable. At the end of Design Miami/ the distinctive raffia material used throughout the HSBC Private Bank lounge was donated to the school to be recycled into new works of art and design.
The inaugural project in December 2007 challenged senior DASH students to design a chair fabricated from recycled aluminium and focusing on comfort, aesthetic appeal and ease of production from the environmentally sensitive material. Five designs were selected to be taken from concept to prototypes that were displayed in the HSBC Private Bank lounge during Design Miami/2007. Then, in June 2008, HSBC Private Bank hosted the DASH students and teachers in Switzerland to allow them to experience Design Miami/ Basel and gain new perspectives on the international world of design.
