Overview
Design Miami/Basel not only satisfies demand for a high-end, limited-edition, design fair, but also broadens awareness of design as a discipline - from concept to production and appreciation to investment.
June 2009 saw the fair widen its curatorial focus, extending its perspective beyond post-war twentieth century design to also consider the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This new approach was motivated by the desire to encourage fresh perspectives and a reappraisal of the design and manufacturing processes of the past, which all too often are overlooked when the objects are simply considered antiques.
Attracting the world's top designers, gallerists and collectors, the two internationally renowned annual shows take place in Basel, Switzerland in June and Miami, USA in December.
