This two day conference (23–24 September 2008) examined the position that art holds in our society. It considered how imaginative art and design projects can stimulate the economy, education, tourism and business creating a vibrant cultural environment whilst raising Guernsey's international profile.

The conference also looked at cultural initiatives in other parts of the world; examining ways to build on the rich cultural base that exists in Guernsey while celebrating the qualities that are connected to living on an island in the 21st century. Many leading international figures from the world of art, design and education spoke at the event, including Antony Gormley.
