100 Years of Bangla Music
A celebration of the music heroes of the last century.
Project dates: 2006–2007
The roots of Bangla music stretch back many centuries, however the last 100 years have been particularly important for the genre with the emergence of talents such as Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, DL Roya, Atul Prasad, Rajnikant, Hason Raja and many more.
HSBC sponsored a concert to celebrate this talent. Academic researchers chose 43 songs which were then performed by 20 of the most well known and respected Bengali singers including Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Mitali Mukhergee, Sabina Yasmeen, Rezwana Choudhury Bonna, Mita Haque and Abdul Hadi.
